ABB Ltd, ABB India's parent, agreed to sell its Robotics division to SoftBank Group for $5.375 billion, replacing a spin-off. The deal needs approvals and is expected to close in mid-to-late 2026. ABB expects $5.3 billion in net cash proceeds, a $2.4 billion pre-tax gain and $200 million of separation costs. The unit generated $2.3 billion of 2024 revenue. ABB India's board will assess effects on its Indian robotics business.
The sale may unlock cash and a book gain for ABB Group, but closing is not assured. ABB India's direct earnings impact is not yet known.
