Bajaj Auto received an order from the Commissioner of Customs (Export), Mumbai, alleging mis-classification on import of Li-ion batteries and denying a notification benefit. The order raises a demand of around Rs 76.10 lakh as differential customs duty, plus applicable interest, equivalent penalty and a Rs 60 lakh redemption fine. The company says it correctly classified the goods and is filing an appeal, adding that the order has no major financial implications.
Minor impact as the company is appealing. Total exposure about Rs 1.36 crore plus interest, but management says no material financial effect.
