Balkrishna Industries (BKT) has commissioned the first phase of its previously announced Rs. 3,500 crore capex program at its Bhuj facility, adding 800 tyres per day of new production capacity that can be used for either Commercial Vehicle Radial Tyres or Off-Highway/Mining Truck Tyres. The company has invested Rs. 750 crore in this first phase, funded entirely through internal accruals with no debt taken on. As part of the same capex program, BKT has also expanded its Power Plant capacity from 40 MW to 64 MW. The full program approved since 2024 totals around Rs. 4,800 crore and covers Carbon Black, Power Plant, CV Tyres, Rubber Tracks, and Passenger Car Radial Tyres, as part of the company's growth plan for 2030.
Positive for shareholders — the company is executing its growth plan on schedule without taking on debt, and the new capacity (especially in mining/CV tyres) should support future revenue growth. The power plant expansion also reduces dependence on external power, supporting margins. Watch for further phase-wise commissioning updates and how quickly the new capacity gets utilised.
