Bank of Baroda reported Q1 FY2025-26 standalone net profit of ₹4,541 crore, up ~1.9% from ₹4,458 crore in Q1 FY24-25, on total income of ₹35,766 crore (~11.4% growth). Operating profit before provisions and contingencies grew 15% to ₹8,236 crore. Asset quality improved with Gross NPA falling to 2.28% (from 2.88%) and Net NPA to 0.60% (from 0.69%). Capital Adequacy Ratio strengthened to 17.61% (from 16.82%). However, consolidated net profit declined ~26.6% YoY to ₹3,469 crore, partly impacted by provisions and one-time impact of RRB amalgamation (₹1,307 crore debit). Provisions surged ~94% to ₹1,967 crore. Return on Assets dipped to 1.03% from 1.13% on standalone basis. EPS stood at ₹8.78. The auditors issued an unmodified opinion but flagged an Emphasis of Matter regarding ongoing amortization of ₹1,454 crore family pension liability.
Mixed quarter for shareholders — robust pre-provisioning profit growth, strong asset quality improvement, and healthy capital position are positives, but rising provisions, a sharp consolidated PAT decline, and lower RoA suggest margin pressure. Investors should watch for trends in credit costs and the impact of RRB amalgamation in coming quarters.
