Bharat Bijlee's board approved an additional ₹65 Crores capex on August 25, 2025, to expand transformer capacity at its existing Airoli factory in Navi Mumbai from 28,000 MVA to 35,000 MVA. This is part of a larger ₹235 Crores brownfield expansion plan to add a total of 17,000 MVA over the next 12 months, fully funded through internal accruals with no debt or equity dilution. The first phase of ₹170 Crores (10,000 MVA expansion from 18,000 to 28,000 MVA) was approved in May 2024, and the current ₹65 Crores covers the remaining 7,000 MVA. The company's existing capacity is already running at 80% utilization, signalling strong underlying demand for transformers.
This capacity expansion reflects management's confidence in rising transformer demand and should support future revenue growth. Since the entire ₹235 Crores capex is being funded from internal accruals, existing shareholders are protected from dilution or added leverage, which is a positive signal for the stock.
