Bharat Dynamics Limited, a defence PSU under Ministry of Defence, held a foundation stone ceremony for a new Naval Systems Manufacturing Facility at T. Sirasapalli village in Anakapalli district, Andhra Pradesh. The event was graced by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The greenfield facility will be built on 160 acres and focus on underwater weapon systems, torpedoes, mines, and naval combat systems for the Indian Navy. The estimated investment is around Rs 500 crore with completion expected in approximately four years. The project aims to enhance BDL's production capacity for concurrent projects and strengthen collaboration with DRDO and Indian Navy establishments in Visakhapatnam region. It is expected to generate about 3000 direct and indirect employment opportunities and promote local MSMEs.
This announcement signals a major strategic expansion for BDL into naval underwater warfare systems. The Rs 500 crore capex will significantly boost manufacturing capacity and diversify revenue streams beyond existing missile systems. For shareholders, this represents long-term growth potential through new naval contracts, though it involves multi-year capital deployment before returns materialise.
