On the reaction day the stock moved 0.9 pts more than Nifty 100 and 0.6 pts more than its Refineries & Marketing peers, over the same two closes: a difference in percentage points, not a measure of what the filing did.

BPCL's subsidiary BPRL, through its 50:50 JV Urja Bharat Pte Ltd, announced an oil discovery in Abu Dhabi's Onshore Block 1 on January 13, 2026. Oil was found in the XN-76 well in the Unconventional Shilaif play and in the XN-79 02S well in the Habshan reservoir. USD 166 million was invested during the exploration phase. The concession covers 6,162 sq km with BPRL holding full concession rights via the SPV.
Positive for BPCL's upstream growth and India's energy security; commercial viability still to be established in the appraisal phase.
