On the reaction day the stock moved 0.7 pts less than Nifty Midcap 150 and 0.6 pts more than its Heavy Electrical Equipment peers, over the same two closes: a difference in percentage points, not a measure of what the filing did.

BHEL Board has approved the short closure of the capital investment scheme for setting up a new plant at Karkhiyaon, Varanasi. The scheme was originally communicated to stock exchanges on 23 January 2024. The products previously planned for the new Varanasi plant will now be manufactured at other BHEL locations, citing the current business landscape. Board meeting ran from 10:50 am to 11:28 am on 19 January 2026.
The Karkhiyaon Varanasi plant will not be built; production shifts to existing BHEL units, saving capex but signalling no new capacity addition in Varanasi.
