A fire incident occurred at Camlin Fine Sciences' Diphenol Plant in Dahej SEZ, Gujarat on May 23, 2026 at 11:30 PM. The fire was caused by leakage of high-temperature thermic fluid spreading to the flaking unit. It was brought under control within an hour with no injuries to personnel. As a precautionary measure, the adjacent Vanillin facility was also shut down. The estimated loss is around INR 2 crore from damage to equipment and loss of approximately 30 MT of Catechol inventory. The company states the loss is covered by insurance. Separately, the Diphenol Plant was already in the process of shutdown due to geopolitical issues causing raw material shortages. The plant contributed 5.06% of company turnover (Rs. 4,352.47 lakh in FY2024-25).
The fire incident is not expected to materially impact company operations. The Vanillin facility restart is expected within 48 hours. The Diphenol Plant shutdown is not expected to affect downstream product sales as Hydroquinone has been secured through imports and Catechol inventory is adequate.
