Concord Control Systems, through its wholly owned subsidiary Advanced Rail Controls Pvt Ltd (ARCPL), has secured a ₹47 crore work order from NTPC Limited for developing the world's largest 3100 HP hydrogen-fuelled locomotive propulsion system. The project marks the first-ever conversion of a diesel locomotive to a 3,100 HP hydrogen-powered one, surpassing the earlier global benchmark of 1,600 HP for hydrogen rail systems. The propulsion system is positioned as a commercially deployable solution for freight-scale operations, not a lab prototype. The initiative aligns with Indian Railways' net-zero carbon emissions target by 2030 and is being executed in collaboration with Railway Engineering Works. Management has highlighted plans to use the project as a springboard for global expansion into the EU, Japan, Australia, the Middle East, Africa and North America.
This is a meaningful new revenue win from a marquee public-sector customer and gives the company a first-mover claim in high-HP hydrogen rail propulsion, which could attract investor interest. However, the order size (₹47 Cr) is modest, execution and technology risks remain, and much of the long-term value depends on follow-on orders and export traction that have not yet materialised.
