Concord Control Systems has developed India's first fully indigenous zero-emission propulsion system to convert diesel locomotives into electric ones, announced on September 4, 2025. The system uses Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries with a DC chopper-based drive and is retrofitted onto a 700 HP diesel-electric platform, delivering 800A peak current to traction motors. Nearly all critical components—chopper, Vehicle Control Unit, driver display, sensors, and controllers—have been designed and manufactured in-house, with only a few semiconductor devices sourced externally. The technology aligns with Indian Railways' goal of 100% electrification by 2030 and offers features like remote monitoring, predictive maintenance, and fibre-optic EMI-immune signal transmission. No order value, customer contract, or revenue guidance was disclosed in this announcement.
This is a technology milestone and PR announcement rather than a revenue-generating event, so near-term stock impact may be limited. However, it strengthens CCSL's positioning as a leading RDSO-approved rail technology player and could attract future orders from Indian Railways as the 2030 electrification deadline approaches.
