Cosmo First Limited has commenced commercial production at its new BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene) film line at its existing Waluj, Aurangabad plant from June 1, 2025. The new line is a 10.4-meter-wide, 5-layer BOPP line with a capacity of 81,200 metric tonnes per annum, described as one of the highest-capacity lines in the world with advanced technology. With this addition, the company's total BOPP capacity rises to about 277,000 MT per annum, roughly a 41% jump in BOPP capacity. The project was originally announced in September 2021, marking the completion of a multi-year capex initiative.
This is a meaningful capacity expansion that should boost future revenue potential and operating leverage once utilization ramps up. In the near term, higher depreciation from the new line may pressure margins, but over time the larger scale strengthens Cosmo First's position in the BOPP packaging segment.
