DCM Shriram's board approved an equity investment of up to Rs. 87 crores (minimum 26% stake) in one or more Special Purpose Vehicles set up for a renewable energy power project at the company's Bharuch Plant. It also approved a capital expenditure of up to Rs. 130 crores for related infrastructure development, taking the total commitment to around Rs. 217 crores. The project will add about 48 MW of renewable power (around 30 MW round-the-clock at 75% capacity utilisation), nearly doubling the Bharuch Plant's renewable energy supply from the current 50.4 MW to 98.4 MW. The project is expected to be completed around June 2027. Further details will be disclosed in due course as per SEBI norms.
This move strengthens DCM Shriram's energy security at the Bharuch Plant and aligns with the company's push towards cleaner power, potentially reducing long-term power costs and carbon footprint. For shareholders, it represents a sizeable but manageable capital outlay (well under 10% of net worth) that should support sustainable operations, though returns will depend on efficient project execution by mid-2027.
