Reliance Industries Limited, through its subsidiary Siddhant Commercials Limited, sold 3.50 crore (35 million) equity shares of Asian Paints on June 12, 2025, at Rs. 2,201 per share, for a total transaction value of approximately Rs. 7,704 crore. After this sale, RIL continues to hold 87 lakh (8.7 million) equity shares of Asian Paints. The disclosure was filed under SEBI Listing Regulations to keep the stock exchanges informed of this block deal. Reliance appears to be gradually trimming its stake in Asian Paints, reducing its exposure to the paint maker.
For Reliance shareholders, this is a significant cash inflow of ~Rs. 7,700 crore from monetising a non-core investment, which could support capital allocation toward RIL's core businesses like retail, telecom (Jio), and new energy. The continued holding of 87 lakh shares means RIL is not exiting Asian Paints entirely, limiting the negative signalling effect on either stock.
