Emcure Pharmaceuticals has announced a major price reduction for its weight management drug Poviztra® (semaglutide injection). The starting dose (0.25 mg) price is cut by 55% to Rs. 3,999 per month from Rs. 8,790. Average price reduction across all five dosage strengths is 47%. The revised prices will be effective from April 3, 2026. Emcure is the first Indian company to exclusively distribute and commercialize this Novo Nordisk semaglutide brand for obesity treatment. The company aims to expand access to this proven therapy amid India's growing obesity epidemic affecting nearly 254 million people.
The significant price cut could boost patient adoption and sales volume for Poviztra®, though it will compress per-unit margins in the near term. This competitive pricing strategy may help Emcure capture a larger share of India's emerging weight management drug market.
