GAIL has received approval from PNGRB to double the capacity of its Jamnagar-Loni LPG Pipeline (JLPL) from 3.25 MMTPA to 6.5 MMTPA. JLPL is currently India's longest LPG pipeline and is already running at full 100% utilization. The expansion is expected to be completed within 3 years from the authorization date (23 July 2025). LPG demand has grown at about 6% per decade, and the company expects similar growth to continue, making the expanded capacity commercially useful. The document does not disclose the estimated capex outlay for the expansion.
This is a positive development for GAIL as it doubles throughput on a pipeline already running at full capacity, supporting future revenue and volume growth. However, since the current pipeline is fully utilized, near-term volumes remain capped until the expanded capacity comes online, and the actual financial impact is not disclosed in this filing.
