Godrej Industries' Chemicals Business has announced a major capacity expansion plan with total capital outlay exceeding INR 750 Crore over the next few years. Key additions include doubling of Fatty Alcohol capacity (+35,000 tons p.a.), doubling of Euric Acid capacity (+20,000 tons p.a.), tripling of specialties capacity (+21,000 tons p.a.), doubling of glycerine capacity (+24,000 tons p.a.), a threefold jump in fermentation capacity (+1,500 tons p.a.), and addition of 30,000 tons p.a. of Primary Surfactants. The company also plans to raise renewable energy usage to 75% as part of its sustainability push. The expansion aligns with management's stated goal of scaling the chemicals business to a USD 1 Billion global operation before 2030. The company has already begun executing several of these projects and currently operates four manufacturing locations across Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa with presence in 80+ countries.
This is a meaningful growth-oriented capex announcement that signals strong management confidence in the chemicals segment's long-term demand. Shareholders can expect future revenue and earnings expansion, though the large investment may pressure near-term ROCE. The green chemistry and renewable energy focus also strengthens the business's ESG profile.
