On May 13, 2025, a heavy lightning strike caused both 25 MVA transformers (PTR-1 and PTR-2) at the company's Solar Power Plant in Gokak Falls, Karnataka to trip, along with the 110 KV grid supply failure. PTR-1 was successfully recharged after inspection, but PTR-2 was found to have a fault in its Y-phase winding (damaged coil) and cannot be repaired on-site, needing factory-level repair. As a result, half of the plant's 40 MW power generation capacity (around 20 MW) is currently affected. The company has informed the manufacturer, OEM, and insurance company, and a surveyor has been called to assess the situation. The transformer damage is covered by insurance — the company holds a Material Damage policy of Rs. 311.31 crores and a Business Interruption policy of Rs. 37.84 crores. Solar generation is running at ~50% capacity until PTR-2 is repaired, which may temporarily dent power revenues, but the damage is insured and the financial hit is likely to be recoverable.
