Grasim Industries' Board has approved investing up to ₹2,880 crore in Aditya Birla Capital Limited's (ABCL) preferential equity issuance. ABCL, Grasim's subsidiary (currently 52.27% owned), is raising a total of up to ₹4,000 crore — with ₹200 crore from Suryaja Investment (an Aditya Birla Group entity) and ₹920 crore from International Finance Corporation (IFC), the World Bank's private sector arm. The issuance price is ₹356.02 per share, subject to SEBI ICDR regulations and shareholder approvals. Post-transaction, Grasim's stake in ABCL will rise marginally to 53.08%. The capital will fund ABCL's growth objectives, lending business expansion, and general corporate purposes. IFC's participation highlights international institutional confidence in ABCL's financial services platform.
Grasim is deepening its commitment to its financial services subsidiary at a significant scale, consolidating control while bringing in a marquee international investor (IFC). The ₹2,880 crore outflow is material but signals strategic intent to build ABCL as a core growth engine alongside Grasim's existing businesses.
