Hindalco announced a Rs 21,000 crore, 3.6 lakh tonne per year aluminium smelter expansion at Aditya Aluminium in Sambalpur, Odisha. It also commissioned a 1.7 lakh tonne per year Flat Rolled Products and battery-grade aluminium foil facility built at Rs 4,500 crore, India first such battery foil plant supporting EV and lithium-ion cell manufacturing. Part of Rs 37,000 crore Odisha investment under the wider Rs 55,000 crore India capex plan. Expected to create over 15,000 jobs and cut India 40 percent flat-rolled aluminium import dependence by nearly half.
Big capex signals long-term growth, strengthens EV and battery supply chain position, positive for shareholders though near-term capex outflow.
