Hindustan Zinc has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, for the grant of a Composite License to mine the Jhandawali-Satipura Amalgamated Potash and Halite Block in Rajasthan. The block spans 1,841.25 hectares in Hanumangarh District and was awarded through an e-auction conducted by the Ministry of Mines. The LoI was issued under Rule 18(1) of the Mineral Auction Rules 2015, following HZL's earlier selection as the preferred bidder on May 28, 2025. This move marks HZL's diversification beyond its core zinc and lead business into potash and salt (halite) mining, which are key minerals for the fertilizer and chemical industries.
This is a positive long-term development as it gives HZL entry into the potash and halite segments, potentially adding a new revenue stream beyond zinc and lead. However, the LoI is a preliminary step before the final license is granted, so near-term impact on the stock is likely to be limited.
