Hindustan Zinc has been issued a Letter of Intent by the Government of Karnataka as the preferred bidder for a mining lease over 314.21 hectares in Chamrajnagar District. The block contains Rare Earth Elements (REE) and Yttrium, classified as critical minerals. The grant is under Rule 10(2) of the Mineral Auction Rules 2015. This marks HZL's entry into the rare earth segment, diversifying beyond its core zinc, lead and silver business.
Entry into strategic REE and Yttrium mining diversifies HZL beyond zinc, though lease still needs final grant and operational ramp-up before value is delivered.
