IRFC has signed a Rs 13,527 crore term loan agreement with L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited to refinance the debt obligations of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project. The 20-year facility replaces higher-cost debt with competitively priced rupee financing and carries no processing fees or prepayment penalties. The refinancing is backed by a Telangana government guarantee and RBI-backed direct debit mandate. The Hyderabad Metro Phase-I spans 69.2 km across 57 stations, currently serving over 5 lakh passengers daily. The deal also enables the state government to accelerate planned metro expansion including new corridors. For IRFC, this marks a significant step in diversifying beyond conventional railway assets into urban transit infrastructure financing.
This landmark refinancing deal strengthens IRFC's portfolio diversification into urban mobility infrastructure while establishing a replicable financing framework for metro rail projects nationwide, supporting its growth beyond core railway financing.
