IndiGrid has commissioned India's first regulated utility-scale standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project, called Kilokari BESS Private Limited (KBPL), located in Delhi with a capacity of 20 MW / 40 MWh. The project received its Commercial Operation Date (COD) acknowledgment from BSES Rajdhani Power Limited on April 4, 2025, with the actual COD effective April 1, 2025. The project was originally awarded to IndiGrid in October 2023 by BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) and was completed on time and within budget, supported by BRPL, GEAPP, and Ampere-hour Energy. This maiden commercial BESS project adds to IndiGrid's existing BESS portfolio of 450 MW / 900 MWh, part of its overall 41 power projects with assets under management of approximately ₹294 billion (~USD 3.4 billion).
This milestone strengthens IndiGrid's position in the energy storage space and supports its growth in the renewable energy infrastructure segment, likely boosting investor confidence. Successfully executing a first-of-its-kind project within budget could position IndiGrid for future BESS and grid-stability contracts.
