Central Bank of India has completed the formalities of acquiring a 24.91% equity stake in Future Generali India Insurance Company Ltd (FGIICL) by signing three agreements on 27th June 2025. These are: a Shareholders Agreement with Generali Participations Netherlands N.V. and FGIICL, a Trademark License Agreement allowing Generali to use the Bank's trademarks for 10 years, and a Distribution Agreement under which the Bank will act as a Corporate Agent for FGIICL's general insurance products for 6 years. The Generali Group holds the remaining 74% in FGIICL, making it an associate company of the Bank. This follows the Bank's earlier intimation dated 5th June 2025 about the stake acquisition.
This move diversifies Central Bank of India's revenue into the insurance distribution business, giving it a steady fee income stream and deeper involvement in a marquee insurance venture. For shareholders, it signals the Bank's strategy to leverage its large branch network for insurance cross-selling, though the 24.91% stake is a minority position with limited direct earnings impact.
