Jindal Stainless has issued an official statement on the impact of the Middle East war crisis on its operations. The company highlighted that stainless steel manufacturing relies heavily on industrial gases like propane/LPG and natural gas, which are now constrained. Unlike blast furnace-based steel, the stainless steel scrap-based route does not generate these gases internally. As a result, plants are running at a 'rationalised' (reduced) capacity. Additionally, disruptions in global shipping routes are causing vessel diversions, longer transit times, and cargo delays, putting further pressure on supply chains and margins. The company is awaiting government clarity on fuel allocation for critical sectors and warns of a cascading industry-wide effect if issues are not resolved quickly.
Near-term negative for production volumes and margins due to fuel shortages and shipping disruptions. Shareholders should expect weaker quarterly performance until government fuel allocation clarity emerges and shipping routes normalise.
