Jindal Steel has been declared the preferred bidder by the Government of Odisha for two iron ore blocks — Rengalaberha North-East Extension and Nuagan West — located in Keonjhar district, spanning about 84 hectares. The company won the online auction with a final price offer of 111.15% premium to the government. The blocks, part of a 12-block tranche notified in December 2025, are estimated to hold around 38 million tonnes of iron ore resources and have been explored up to the G2 level. The acquisition strengthens Jindal Steel's captive raw material base, supporting its mine-to-metal integrated steel-making model.
Securing captive iron ore reserves of ~38 million tonnes can reduce raw material costs and supply risk over the long term, which is positive for margins and operational stability. Investors may view this as a strategic backward-integration win, though the higher-than-100% premium paid signals aggressive bidding that could limit near-term cost benefits.
