JSW Energy has completed the acquisition of a 51% majority stake in KSK Water Infrastructures Private Limited (KWIPL) for a total settlement amount of Rs. 962 crores paid in cash. KWIPL was under Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) since January 2021, and the NCLT Hyderabad Bench approved the withdrawal of the CIRP application under Section 12A of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code on July 23, 2025. KWIPL provides critical raw water supply to KSK Mahanadi Power Company Limited (KMPCL), which owns a 3,600 MW thermal power plant in Chhattisgarh (1,800 MW operational, 1,800 MW under development). JSW Energy had earlier acquired KMPCL in March 2025, and the remaining 49% in KWIPL is held by KMPCL itself, giving JSW Energy effective control of the water infrastructure.
This acquisition gives JSW Energy direct operational control over the water supply chain for its 3,600 MW KSK Mahanadi power plant, reducing dependency risks for a critical input. For shareholders, this strengthens the integration of KMPCL into JSW Energy's portfolio and supports the company's growth path toward 30 GW generation capacity by FY2030, though the Rs. 962 crore cash outflow adds to recent acquisition spend.
