JSW Steel has announced the commencement of a greenfield integrated steel plant project at Paradeep in Odisha. The plant will have an initial capacity of 13.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), developed in phases with a total planned investment of approximately ₹65,000 crore. The project spans nearly 2,950 acres and is strategically located on Odisha's coastline to leverage port connectivity and raw material access for serving domestic and international markets. The ceremony was attended by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Odisha and JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal. The project aligns with the Government of India's Mission Purvodaya aimed at industrial development of eastern India. JSW Steel's combined capacity will grow to 54.8 MTPA over the next four years with this and other expansion projects.
This is a significant positive development for JSW Steel, representing one of the company's largest-ever capital commitments. The ₹65,000 crore investment (~₹6.5 lakh crore) signals strong expansion ambitions and will substantially increase the company's steel-making footprint, though full capacity will take several years to materialise through phased development.
