JSW Steel has signed a joint venture agreement with Japan's JFE Steel Corporation to form a 50:50 partnership for the steel business of Bhushan Power and Steel Limited (BPSL). JSW will transfer BPSL's steel business to its subsidiary JSW Sambalpur via slump sale on a going concern basis, which becomes the JV vehicle. Share subscription and ancillary agreements have also been signed. The deal still needs Competition Commission of India approval plus other regulatory and shareholder clearances.
Brings Japanese steel technology and global partner capital into BPSL; JSW shares future investment and risk equally, subject to approvals.
