Kothari Sugars reported Q1 FY26 revenue from operations of Rs. 6,669.32 lakhs, down about 25.6% from Rs. 8,962.20 lakhs in Q1 FY25, mainly because sugar segment sales fell to Rs. 2,887 lakhs from Rs. 5,548 lakhs. The distillery segment, however, grew to Rs. 3,195 lakhs from Rs. 2,761 lakhs. The company swung to a profit after tax of Rs. 124.95 lakhs (EPS Rs. 0.15) versus a loss of Rs. 53.19 lakhs in the year-ago quarter, supported by an exceptional gain of Rs. 155.84 lakhs from reversal of an electricity-related provision. Underlying profit before exceptional items and tax was a thin Rs. 8.28 lakhs, while the sugar segment continued to post a segment-level loss of Rs. 991 lakhs. The statutory auditor (P. Chandrasekar LLP) issued an unqualified limited review report with no qualifications.
Mixed picture for shareholders: revenue shrank sharply YoY due to weak sugar realisations and lower sugar volumes, but the distillery business is providing a cushion and a small bottom-line profit returned this quarter. The headline PAT flip to positive is largely aided by a one-time exceptional item, so underlying earnings power remains weak — keep an eye on sugar pricing and the distillery ramp-up for sustained improvement.
