Maithan Alloys will fully shut down its Byrnihat Unit in Meghalaya from 31st August 2025 for an indefinite period. The decision is driven by adverse market conditions and a steep increase in power costs in the state. The Byrnihat Unit contributed about 6.12% of the company's turnover (Rs 111.29 crore out of Rs 1,819.66 crore) and roughly 8.16% of net worth (Rs 300.76 crore out of Rs 3,684.59 crore) in FY25. The company continues to operate its other two units at Kalyaneshwari (West Bengal) and Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh). No sale of the unit is being undertaken; it is a pure production shutdown.
Negative for topline since ~6% of revenue is being phased out, but likely a margin-positive move if the unit was loss-making due to high power costs. For shareholders, this is a cost-rationalisation step and not a regulatory or accident-driven shutdown, limiting the negative surprise.
