MCX received SEBI approval to invest up to ₹100 Crore in a new wholly-owned subsidiary, tentatively named MCX Coal Exchange Ltd., to build a regulated, tech-driven digital platform for coal trading and physical delivery. The entity is yet to be incorporated in India. MCX will initially hold 100% stake and may bring in partners later. A license application will follow with the Coal Controller Organization of India. The move aligns with the Government of India's vision for a transparent, standardized coal ecosystem.
Opens a new energy-sector vertical for MCX with a government-backed digital coal market, creating a fresh long-term revenue stream alongside its core commodity exchange business.
