NLC India, through its joint venture NUPPL (51:49 with UP Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam), started initial mining operations at the Pachwara South coal block in Dumka, Jharkhand on 19 December 2025. The block has extractable reserves of 264.84 million tonnes and a capacity of 9 MTPA at G10 grade. The coal is meant to fuel the 3x660 MW Ghatampur Thermal Power Plant in Uttar Pradesh being built by the same JV.
Positive for fuel security of Ghatampur power project. Initial mining start signals long term coal supply, supporting future power generation and earnings.
