Piramal Pharma has approved a US$90 million investment to expand two of its US facilities. The Lexington, Kentucky site will add commercial-scale sterile injectable manufacturing (new filling line, two commercial lyophilizers, capping machine, and 24,000 sq ft of manufacturing space), with completion expected by late 2027. The Riverview, Michigan site will add a commercial-scale suite for developing and manufacturing payload-linkers used in antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), expected to be operational before end-2025. Both are brownfield expansions financed through bank loans and internal accruals, incremental to the company's prior $570 million invested in the US. The investments support the company's integrated ADCelerate™ program for end-to-end ADC development and align with the US onshoring trend in drug supply.
Positive for long-term growth as the expansion strengthens Piramal's position in high-demand segments (sterile injectables and ADCs/oncology bioconjugates), potentially adding new revenue streams from 2025-2027. Short-term impact may be limited since Riverview is operational by end-2025 and Lexington only by late 2027; the capex is debt-funded, so interest costs and execution risk on timelines will be monitored.
