Pondy Oxides & Chemicals Limited (POCL) has received board approval to set up a new Copper Recycling Plant at Thervoykandigai, Thiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu. The plant will have an installed capacity of 36,000 MTPA of LME Grade A Copper Cathode, implemented in two phases of 18,000 MTPA each. The project cost is approximately Rs. 200 crores, funded through internal accruals. The facility will use integrated pyro-refining and electro-refining technology, targeting both domestic Indian and export markets. Commissioning is targeted for December 2026. The strategic rationale includes expanding the company's non-ferrous recycling portfolio, forward integration, reducing copper import dependency, and strengthening vertical integration.
This Rs. 200 crore capital investment represents a significant expansion that could substantially grow POCL's revenue and profitability once commissioned. The forward integration into recycled copper production with value-added capabilities should improve the company's product mix and margins, while also positioning it as a competitive global recycled copper supplier.
