PNB reported strong audited results for FY25 with standalone net profit nearly doubling to Rs. 16,630 crore (vs Rs. 8,245 crore in FY24), a growth of about 102%. Q4 FY25 standalone net profit rose 52% year-on-year to Rs. 4,567 crore. Total income for the year grew around 15% to Rs. 138,070 crore, driven by healthy interest income growth of nearly 14% to Rs. 121,761 crore. Asset quality improved markedly, with gross NPAs falling to 3.95% (from 5.73%) and net NPAs to 0.40% (from 0.73%). Capital adequacy ratio rose to 17.01% (from 15.97%) and return on assets improved to 0.97% (from 0.54%). EPS for the year nearly doubled to Rs. 14.77, and the Board has recommended a dividend of Rs. 2.90 per share (145%). The bank also raised about Rs. 5,000 crore through a Qualified Institutional Placement during the year.
This is a strong, broad-based performance with significant improvement in profitability, asset quality, and capital position, which should be positive for shareholder sentiment. However, the operating margin (operating profit to total income) compressed slightly to 19.43% from 20.73%, suggesting some cost pressure despite the headline profit surge.
