Punjab National Bank filed its Annual Report for FY 2024-25, reporting strong business growth of 14% with global business reaching Rs 26.83 lakh crore. Net profit doubled to Rs 16,630 crore (up 102%) from Rs 8,245 crore in the previous year, driven by a 7.6% rise in operating profit and 21.9% growth in other income. Asset quality improved significantly with GNPA falling to 3.95% (from 5.73%) and NNPA to 0.40% (from 0.73%). The bank raised Rs 5,000 crore through a Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP) during the year and maintained a healthy Capital Adequacy Ratio of 17.01%. Return on Equity improved sharply to 19.33% from 11.66%, while retail, agriculture, and MSME (RAM) advances grew 15.9%, contributing 56.5% of domestic advances.
The doubling of net profit, improved asset quality, and successful QIP reflect strong fundamentals that should be positive for shareholders. However, management has flagged expected pressure on Net Interest Margins (NIM) due to RBI's ongoing rate-cut cycle, which could weigh on future earnings growth.
