Punjab National Bank announced its Q1FY26 results (quarter ended June 30, 2025). Standalone net profit jumped to Rs. 1,663 crore from Rs. 325 crore in Q1FY25, a sharp rise largely aided by lower tax outgo. Total income grew to Rs. 3,800 crore from Rs. 3,217 crore, while interest on advances rose to Rs. 2,184 crore. Asset quality improved meaningfully with Gross NPAs falling to 3.95% (from 4.98% YoY) and Net NPAs to 0.97% (from 1.02%). Provisioning Coverage Ratio strengthened to 96.88%, and Capital Adequacy Ratio (Basel III) stood at 14.77% with CET 1 at 11.74%. The bank also completed RRB amalgamations under the One State-One RRB scheme, paying Rs. 951 crore to other sponsor banks. Auditors gave an unmodified (clean) limited review conclusion.
Headline profit growth is strong but partly reflects the new lower tax regime; investors should watch for the underlying operating performance trend. Improving asset quality and steady capital position are positives for shareholders, and the clean auditor opinion supports confidence in reported numbers.
