Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers (RCF) has received in-principle board approval to set up a new 300 Metric Tonnes Per Day (MTPD) Phosphoric Acid Plant at its Thai Unit in Alibag, Maharashtra. The plant, based on 100% P2O5, will be built within 24 months from the Letter of Intent and requires an investment of approximately ₹865.25 Crore. Funding will come through a mix of debt and equity. The project is aimed at strengthening the company's backward integration, which should reduce dependence on imported phosphoric acid and support its fertilizer manufacturing operations.
This is a sizeable capex announcement (~₹865 Crore) for a PSU of RCF's size, likely exceeding 10% of net worth. It signals a strategic move towards self-sufficiency in raw materials, which could improve margins over the long term, though near-term debt and execution risks remain for shareholders.
