Bank of Maharashtra has received a license from the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) on 8th May 2025 to set up an IFSC Banking Unit (IBU) at GIFT IFSC, Gujarat. This follows RBI's earlier permission granted on 13th February 2025 for establishing the IBU. An IBU allows banks to offer international banking and foreign currency services from the GIFT City IFSC zone. This is a strategic expansion step to grow the bank's international banking footprint.
This is a positive milestone for Bank of Maharashtra, enabling it to tap into cross-border trade finance, foreign currency lending, and international corporate banking opportunities from GIFT IFSC. While not immediately revenue-accretive, it diversifies the bank's offerings and could support fee income and NIM expansion over time.
