Motherson, through its 50:50 joint venture MMLI with Marelli Europe SPA, has inaugurated a new automotive lighting manufacturing plant in Sanand, Gujarat, on February 23, 2026. The 8,200 sq. metre facility will produce premium exterior lighting systems, including headlamps, Daytime Running Lights (DRL), and Rear Combination Lamps (RCL). It is the first plant in India capable of making edge-to-edge single-piece long lighting parts, using high-tonnage multi-colour moulding machines (2,000T to 2,700T). The plant also features rooftop solar power with plans for open-access green energy. The JV (MMLI) has been operational since 2008, and the investment was led jointly by Motherson and Marelli.
This capacity addition strengthens Motherson's lighting business and supports growing demand for advanced automotive lighting in India, potentially boosting future revenue from the JV. Since MMLI is a 50% JV, the financial impact will flow through Motherson's share of JV profits rather than as a wholly-owned subsidiary.
