Shriram Finance has received an order dated February 26, 2026 from the Additional Commissioner of Central Tax, Secunderabad, imposing GST penalties under Section 74 of the CGST Act. The penalties relate to FY 2020-21 (Rs. 95.17 lakh), FY 2021-22 (Rs. 1.15 crore), and FY 2022-23 (Rs. 6.24 crore), totalling about Rs. 8.34 crore. The demand stems from non-payment of GST due to adjustments in Form GSTR-9C and non-reversal of ineligible input tax credit. Along with penalties, total tax demand works out to roughly Rs. 8.25 crore. The company has stated there is no material impact on its financials, operations, or other activities and is awaiting advice from its tax consultant to decide on further action.
The penalty amount is small relative to Shriram Finance's overall size, so it is unlikely to move the stock materially. Investors should watch for any appeal filing or further demand orders from other state GST authorities.
