SpiceJet has added five more aircraft on damp lease, taking its total recent fleet additions to ten. The latest batch includes one previously grounded Boeing 737 MAX that has been reactivated, along with three Boeing 737s and one Airbus A340 inducted earlier. All five newly added planes are now flying commercially on domestic and international routes. By the end of November 2025, the airline expects to more than double its operational fleet and triple its available seat kilometres (ASKM) to handle peak winter demand.
Short-term positive for revenue potential as more aircraft flying means higher capacity and ticket sales during the busy winter travel season. However, the fleet addition is through damp lease rather than ownership, which carries lower capital commitment but also doesn't build long-term asset value for shareholders.
