SpiceJet has added another Boeing 737 to its fleet and ungrounded a Boeing 737 MAX, bringing the total aircraft inducted this month to five. Earlier in October, the airline had already inducted two Boeing 737s and one wide-body Airbus A340. The expansion is part of an aggressive winter schedule plan to meet festive and holiday season demand. The airline plans to add a total of 20 aircraft between October and November. By December 2025, SpiceJet expects its expanded fleet to more than double capacity and triple its Available Seat Kilometres (ASKM), according to Chief Business Officer Debojo Maharshi.
Positive operational news signalling significant capacity ramp-up ahead of the peak travel season, which could boost revenue and load factors. However, the fleet expansion also raises questions about near-term cost pressures and execution risk for a carrier that has historically struggled with financial and operational headwinds.
