SpiceJet has received three new aircraft (one Airbus A340 wide-body and two Boeing 737s), starting a major winter expansion. The airline plans to add 20 aircraft to its operational fleet between October and November under a damp lease model, and unground four more planes by mid-December. As a result, SpiceJet expects to more than double its operational fleet size and triple its available seat kilometres (ASKM) by December 2025, alongside new routes and higher flight frequencies. Chairman Ajay Singh described this as a large-scale expansion driven by strong holiday-season travel demand.
A significantly larger fleet and tripled capacity could translate into strong revenue growth in the winter quarter, which is positive for shareholders. However, the expansion is being done via damp lease (not owned planes) and depends on smooth execution of inductions and ungrounding of older aircraft, so cost discipline and on-time deliveries remain key risks to watch.
