SPML Infra Limited has secured a landmark ₹1,128 crore contract from NTPC to develop a 250 MW/1,000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System at NTPC's Barauni Thermal Power Station in Bihar. This is SPML Infra's first large-scale grid BESS project and ranks among the largest single battery storage orders in India. The project scope includes supply, civil works, erection of battery containers with BMS and TMS, 33 kV panel boards, 220 kV cables, and switchyard. Execution will span 18 months followed by 15 years of operation and maintenance. The company will partner with Energy Vault (NYSE: NRGV) as technology provider. SPML Infra states the award falls within normal course of business.
This contract significantly expands SPML Infra's presence in India's emerging battery energy storage sector and provides substantial revenue visibility over the next 18 months plus long-term O&M income. The strategic partnership with Energy Vault positions the company for future BESS opportunities.
