SPML Infra Limited has won a Rs. 1,128 crore contract from NTPC to develop a 250 MW/1,000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System at NTPC's Barauni Thermal Power Station in Bihar. This is the company's first large-scale grid BESS project and ranks among the largest single battery storage orders awarded in India. The project scope covers supply, civil works, erection of battery containers with BMS and TMS, 33 kV panels, 220 kV cables, switchyard, and all associated accessories. Execution will span 18 months followed by 15 years of operation and maintenance. The company partnered with Energy Vault (NYSE: NRGV) for the technology. Management called it a defining moment and a core pillar of growth.
This landmark order significantly expands SPML Infra's project pipeline and marks a strategic entry into India's fast-growing battery energy storage sector, which is positive for future revenue visibility.
