Star Health's board approved its unaudited Q1 FY2026 results (quarter ended June 30, 2025). Profit after tax jumped sharply to Rs. 26,252 lakhs from just Rs. 51 lakhs in the year-ago quarter, translating to a basic EPS of Rs. 4.47 versus Rs. 0.01. The company adopted a new accounting policy for recognising gross written premium on a 1/n basis for long-term products, which reduced reported gross premium by about Rs. 33,003 lakhs but had no material impact on profit. Joint auditors T R Chadha & Co LLP and MSKA & Associates gave a clean limited review. Solvency ratio stood at 2.22x and combined ratio improved slightly to 99.19% from 99.74%. The board also approved the appointment of Ms. Princey Mehra as Chief Compliance Officer effective September 1, 2025, and a postal ballot covering remuneration for the Chairperson, MD & CEO, and conversion of the CMO and COO into Whole-time Directors. Separately, IRDAI levied a Rs. 339 lakh penalty in July 2025 related to the August 2024 cybersecurity incident, which the company has provided for and is planning to appeal at SAT.
The sharp PAT jump signals a much stronger underwriting quarter for shareholders, though the accounting policy shift distorts premium comparisons. Investors should track the IRDAI penalty appeal outcome and watch the incoming Whole-time Director appointments for governance continuity.
