SBI informed exchanges about a data breach incident. On Oct 16, 2026, alerts from CERT-In, Defence Cyber Agency and its threat intelligence provider flagged suspected exposure of bank customer data on the dark web. Of around 375,000 records found, 3,897 customer records containing PII were identified, including names, registered mobile numbers, dates of birth, gender, emails, residential addresses, branch and CIF identifiers, lead IDs, and loan metadata. SBI activated its cyber incident response and engaged an independent CERT-In-empanelled cybersecurity agency to assess the compromise. The bank stated no material impact on core operations, financial performance or business continuity, with remedial measures underway.
Negative sentiment likely over data breach concerns and possible regulatory scrutiny, though SBI assures core banking and financial performance remain unaffected.
